Patty Loudin sent the following letter I don't know whether anyone will really read this, but I had to comment anyway... It's about the Puzzler from Oct. 25 ("Behind Door Number One..."). This was originally in a column written by a woman who goes by the name of Marilyn Vos Savant* (or something like that). I admit that I thought the answer was a lot of hooey, until I really thought about it. Then I discovered that, darn it, she was exactly right. Anyway, I've argued this one with my husband for about 8 years now. I found it interesting that a woman won the week you ran it. It's been my experience that men (with the obvious exception of you guys) won't buy it. Or, to put it another way, men absolutely refuse to even consider for a nano-second that they might, conceivably, be wrong. My husband finally, grudgingly, admitted that I might be right, "over time," (after I demonstrated with 2 black pens and a red one) but that somehow he believes the odds are different if you only get one opportunity to play the game. Arrrrrgh! Thanks for reading. I feel better now. P.S. It makes perfect sense to my 10-year-old daughter! *The columnist got a lot of mail of the "Marilyn, you ignorant slut" variety.
