An Objet D'Art
The two suggestions proferred on last week's show--that of paperweight and shrine--both seek to keep the Dart yoked to utility, but the Dart now fully qualifies as art, an object that exists solely for contemplation and inspiration. It points to nothing beyond itself, but exudes its own essence from every wrinkle of metal and shard of glass. The only thing you should do with the Dart is display it in a place where the masses can ponder the mystery its very Dartness, can lose their daily concerns in aesthetic appreciation of its dramatization of the passage from machine to magnificence, from mortality to immortality. Send the Dart around the country as a traveling exhibition in the fine-arts galleries of local dealerships everywhere. We will flock, and the Dart will be glorified.
